DRYAD HERMES
DRYAD HERMES
Named for the mischievous messenger of the gods, son of Zeus and Maia. A compact grower, with short, spreading leaves displaying the flowers well. On 15cm stems, the outer segments are flattened and paddle-shaped, bearing a large, inverted heart-shaped mark, the group giving the impression of large green spots on white. The inner segments are almost entirely dark green, the colour peeping out between the claws of the outers.
DESCRIPTION for REGISTRATION
Parents are Dryad Venus x Dryad Gold.
Flowering at 15cm, the plicate leaves are spreading, 90mm long by 9mm wide.
The outer segments are 15 x 12mm, broadly paddle-shaped, and flattened, with slightly flared lateral edges. The outer mark is deep emerald green, roughly heart-shaped covering the apical 75%, and terminating with ragged, and often assymetrical streaks towards the base. The prominent sinus, base and lateral edges are white, contrasting sharply with the green of the mark. Their undersides show similar markings, with the green continuing and fading to the base.
The inner segments are 11 x 9 mm and all dark green, apart from a narrow white margin.
The conical ovary is 6 x 4 mm, while the pedicel is 70% of length of the gently curved spathe. There is a prominent short claw, the outer edge sharply changing direction to the blade. It is scented.
DRYAD ICECAP
DRYAD ICECAP
Awarded a Certificate of Merit at AGS Pershore show in 2026, This plicatus x elwesii poculiform is sister to Dryad Snowdrift, from which it differs by being taller, and with larger flowers. Both the outer and inner segments are inrolled longitudinally, and hang from an almost straight spathe.
Like its sisters, it is strongly almond-scented.
DESCRIPTION for REGISTRATION
Parents are G. plicatus E A Bowles x elwesii The Bride. Sown in 2014. Flowering in February at 27cm high (under glass). The outer segments are 28 x 17mm, inrolled longitudinally. The inner segments are 28 x 15 mm. The ovary is 7 x 6 mm, while the pedicel is 40% of length of the almost straight spathe. The claw is 7mm long.
The supervolute leaves are 260 x 25 mm, hooded at their tip and are erect to arching. It is strongly almond-scented.
DRYAD LEPRECHAUN
DRYAD LEPRECHAUN
Bred from Dryad Venus x Dryad Gold, and sister to Dryad Hermes and Dryad Eos, this is a bold YOGI (Yellow ovary, green inner). Growing to 18cm under glass, over short arching leaves, the upright stems carry the distinctive flowers with cupped, rounded outers, and inners that are deep moss green over the apical 75%. The ochre yellow ovary hangs from the erect spathe by a distinctive ‘kinked’ pedicel. Strongly scented, especially when warm.

Flowering in February at 18cm high, the arching, plicate leaves are 60mm x 10mm at flowering time.
The outer segments are 19 x 11mm, shouldered and deeply cupped, with a 2mm claw.
The inner segments are 11 x 9 mm, and bear a deep olive green mark, covering 75% of the segment, fading to a white base, and a white border around the sinus.
The yellow-green conical ovary is 7 x 4 mm, while the pedicel is 80% of length of the straight spathe, with a distinctive right angled bend before the ovary. Strongly scented, especially under glass.
DRYAD NOCTURNE
DRYAD NOCTURNE
Probably the last of our green seedlings to be registered, and the greenest of the bunch, shaded apple green with darker striations between the ridges on the textured outers, with only a narrow white margin and paler apex. The inners are almost completely a very deep green. The short, but prominent claw gives the flower a classic shouldered ‘lampshade’ shape. A neat grower, it flowers at only 12 cm high over short, broad leaves, deeply hooded at their tips.

Parents are Rosemary Burnham x Simply Glowing. Sown in 2016. Flowering height 12cm.
The outer segments are 22 x 15 mm, and cupped, with the lateral edges flipped out. The outer segments are apple green, with deeper longitudinal striations, apart from a white apex and lateral edges, dissolving into white just before the short, distinct claw, giving a shouldered, lampshade shape to the flower.
The inner segments are 11 x 8 mm and are a deep green, becoming slightly paler towards the base and with a narrow white margin and sinus. It is well scented.
The conical ovary is 7 x 5 mm, the pedicel is 60% of length of the almost straight spathe.
The erect leaves are 80 x 16 mm and are supervolute, with strongly hooded tips.
DRYAD ODIN
DRYAD ODIN
Named for the principal god in Norse Mythology, this compact new ipoc has been a favourite with visitors because of its neat habit and strikingly marked flowers. It flowers at 15cm high, above short erect leaves, the cone-shaped flowers bearing a double mark in deep green: a basal oval and an apical inverted V. The prominent, short claw allows a peep of the very dark green inners.

Flowering at 15cm, the applanate/plicate leaves are erect, 110mm long by 9mm wide.
The outer segments are 19 x 16mm, paddle-shaped, and strongly incurved and ridged longitudinally, with the edges flipped up, apart from the prominent short claw, the outer edge of the claw sharply changing direction to the blade. The double outer mark is dark green, consisting of a basal oval, separated from an apical inverted V over the sinus, and contrasting sharply with the white. Their undersides show similar, though more diffuse, markings.
The inner segments are 15 x 11 mm and bear a waisted, very dark green mark and deep sinus cleft.
The conical ovary is 9 x 5 mm, while the pedicel is equal in length to the almost straight spathe. It is scented.
