Dryad Nursery

I’m happy to announce that our ebay sales will begin next week, however, I’m very sad to say that we will only be able to post to England, Scotland and Wales, following Brexit. I know that many of our customers will be disappointed, but until we can find a satisfactory way of getting orders needing CITES certificates outside mainland UK, we are severely limited.

Our listings will start with our Dryad Gold snowdrops, which are the first in flower of the cultivars we have potted for sale this spring. These are flowering well in pots at present, but still hunkering down in the open garden. I brought some indoors for photography today – the smell of honey was almost overpowering in the warmth.

The Dryad Golds are not only superb garden plants but they are also wonderful in pots for cold glass or conservatories, many of the varieties being compact growers. They will not suffer being grown in pots, as is sometimes suggested for snowdrops.

I repot my potted snowdrops every year – you need to with the Dryad Golds as they multiply so quickly and as a result I will be offering multi-nosed bulbs to ensure you get a large clump as soon as possible . Make sure the compost is well-drained, and give liquid feed after flowering.

If you are bringing them indoors for flowering, put them back out as soon as the flowers fade, making sure they are somewhere where the pot will not freeze (such as a cold greenhouse). I try to keep my glasshouses just above freezing on very cold nights, even though my clay pots are plunged in sand. Free standing pots will need a little more protection.

Galanthus Dryad Gold Nugget

It is important to note The high costs and amount of work involved in obtaining CITES certificates for individual Galanthus plants means it is at present no longer possible to post to the EU or Northern Ireland.

Buyers should also be aware that new regulations came into force in December 2019, requiring all plants sold by mail order or online to have a Plant Passport. I am happy to announce that I am now registered to issue plant passports, and so all our plants sold will be fully compliant with the new regulations. Customers can be assured of the quality and legitimacy of our plants. Dryad Nursery is proud of our feedback and careful of the trust put in us by our customers.

Dryad Nursery is a small mail-order-only nursery run by me, Anne Wright, based in Tockwith, North Yorkshire. I grow and breed miniature narcissi, snowdrops, and hepaticas.

The nursery was set up originally simply as a way of disposing of excess bulbs from my hobby, and still has this function, but I also now propagate the plants especially for the list. Everything is on a small scale though – it has to fit into my back-garden!

Gardens Illustrated Magazine ran an article on our miniature daffodils this spring you can see some of it here:  https://www.gardensillustrated.com/plants/spring/narcissi-miniature-how-to-plant/

I hope to put out 2 plant lists annually -  daffodils, anemones, dormant snowdrops and other bulbs such as crocus in July;  and hepaticas in autumn or spring. There may also be seeds available once or twice a year. I will send an email a few days before a list goes out to alert customers that it is imminent. Postal lists will be sent out to hopefully arrive at the same time as the email lists.

The number of each item available at any one time is always going to be small. If you like something in the list – you need to order quickly, by email or phone if possible, to ensure the best chance of getting your choices.

ALL of the plants in my list are home-propagated by myself or Brian Duncan. None are bought in from commercial growers.

In addition, our rarest daffodils and snowdrops will be available on ebay where I sell as DRYADZNY.
